Member Monday: Membership is Not One Size Fits All

2013-10-30Rick Weldon is Member Relations Manager at the Frederick Chamber. Member Monday is published on the biz blog the first Monday of each month.

Chamber membership should be a unique experience for each individual member. If you consider the membership experience as a cookie-cutter, mechanical act of paying dues and blending in with the other 1,000+ members, you’ll miss crucial chances to tailor your membership experience for your own needs and interests.

From the New Member Reception through your initial work with a Chamber Ambassador, every step should be designed to give you the tools you need to succeed. Success is measured differently for everyone, so make sure those expectations are shared early on. Tell us: How can ambassadors and staff help you achieve your goals?

If you own a small business, it may be difficult (if not impossible) for you to attend every function and event we hold. Why even try? Events are designed to help you connect with the people and learn more about the topics that will help your business succeed. Block out some time to sort through our calendar and select events that will benefit you the most.

(Member tip: Business Card Exchanges and Coffee & Contacts are always FREE, as are many of our Small Business Workshops!)

As you learn more about Chamber events and programs, inevitably questions will arise about how appropriate something might be for you and your business.  When that happens, contact me at the Chamber office. I’ll work with you to determine how beneficial it might be for you, and help you get registered and connected.

How have you made your membership work for you? Share your story in the comments section below!
