Jan Gardner (Democratic)
Our non-profit organizations provide incredible value to our community by helping people, strengthening our community, and enhancing our quality of life and sense of belonging. Our non-profits provide an amazing array of human services and also support our quality of life in the arts, education, and entertainment arena. Frederick’s non-profits are employers providing jobs to our residents and are a key part of our service community. We are very fortunate to have non-profit agencies that work together and avoid duplication of services. Frederick County is a great place to live and our community is stronger because of our non-profits.
Blaine R. Young (Republican)
Non-profit organizations are critical to Frederick County, especially to ensure that the poor and needy receive essential services. These groups do more good work than the government could ever accomplish. We must to continue to foster the growth of these organizations, without having them rely on taxpayers for their funding. Non-profits and charities are separate entities from the government, and while we must work together, we cannot coerce taxpayers into giving money to these entities.
The Chamber surveyed all candidates and assembled their responses. Though all candidates were sent a copy of our survey, not all of them responded. The responses received are presented verbatim.
